When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6
When working full-time…the “water closet” was a sanctuary. Even working at home I find the basement or a closed door helpful to keep distractions away.
“Child of God! Listen to your Teacher!… Do not think about how much you have to give to God, but about how much He wants to give to you. Just place yourself before His face and look up into it. Think of His wonderful tender, concerned love…. The blessing of the closet does not depend on the strong or fervent feeling with which I pray, but on the love and power of the Father to Whom I there entrust my needs.”
A relationship with God is not all about serving like Martha – we must also experience His presence as Mary did.

Man o man this is so good in so many ways.Edifying, confirming, restorative words from on high and from a generous heart right down here.
He is amazing Gary. He always wants the best for us. May your day be filled with His goodness.
“A relationship with God is not all about serving like Martha – we must also experience His presence as Mary did.” – YES! It’s often easier to be like Martha
That painting – those are my favorite colors you use. I find it soothing and peaceful. Love!
Mary’s place is pretty unknown to our “culture.” We are doers, task oriented and like the measurable outcomes…. Lord help us all to let go of some doing, so we can BE with You. (This was part of my sponge comment.) love to you sister
i’m hearing something very similar…the Father asking me to go into my secret place with Him so He can love on me and give me all i need. thank you for this. is the last bit a quote from Andrew Murray’s book? i’ve got to see if i can find that…
love & blessings to you today in Christ, judi. may you find time to come away with Jesus.

Yes Natalie- With Christ in the School of Prayer, Chapter/Lesson 3 focuses on Matt 6:6, I shared NIV – they use KVJ and the bold words are scattered from that chapter. I think there are some free downloads and I know there are some varying versions. All His best to you and yours!
What an awesome thought: “Do not think about how much you have to give to God, but about how much He wants to give to you.” Wow! I know you’re being blessed. Someday I hope we can share more of Murray. I am steeped in his book, “Humility” now. Reading it for the second time. God is going to bless you in awesome ways as you study what God spoke to Murray. Again, I’ll be meditating on this thought all day. I’m going to share it with my men’s group as well. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for sharing too Steven. I wonder if Murray has certain threads woven through his various works.
Totally agree with Mr Sawyer = what an awesome thought – We always think we must give to God and forget to focus on what He wants for us
Great Post
God Bless
A recent message talked about a little child…they don’t give to get something from their parent…they just receive. We need to be like children… I like when these things are affirmed and sink in! Bless you Susie
I love those “Holy Spirit” reminders too
God Bless
With it so popular to “come out of the closet”, we need a revival of God’s people going “into the closet.”
Lead the revival Richard!!!! God’s blessings as you press onward!!
