wisdom for all

McElroy has a variety of inspiring quotes and passages in a section of the book.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
― Marianne Williamson, Return to Love (New York: HarperCollins, 1992), 190.

I apparently helped to liberate another yesterday. The owner of a local service station was out as I drove home. He was getting ready to kayak so I pulled in to say hi. I told him I was leaving employment again, he started telling me he has been thinking about selling the shop to live a new chapter – saying my stopping by was just what he needed for encouragement. He didn’t realize how much it was mutual for my own faith journey too!

We do need to share our stories with others. Thank you all for doing that here – you bring your inspiration to so many!

See you next week – I’m off on a creative adventure retreat!
