creating together

One of the major purposes of our Haiti trip – to work with the artisans to create a mural on the first floor. Which was good since the second floor is underway as I type.

We took two days to talk with the artisans, share ideas, hand out paper and ask them for verbal and drawn ideas. We then shared that the space usage was changing and most of the ideas they gave us would probably be best on the second floor…so its very likely a trip in the spring to do more. Care to join?

Several came to draw with us…no pencils. Um…we were creative and used stones to sketch. A little marker definition and then paint.

Many came to see what we were doing and we had them pick up a brush and help. Robyn Bomhof was great in leading the flow. She is used to “weeks” to accomplish a project like this but 2 1/2 days with many hands brought a beautiful visual story.

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Psalm 46:1-5

Several Haitian proverbs and verses were shared with us but timing – we left that to be done by the artisans. Now just prayers that the continuing construction will not require touch up.

Piti, piti, wazo fe nich li.
Little by little the bird builds its nest.

Si se Bondye ki voye. Li peya fre ou.
If it is God who sends you, he’ll pay your expenses.

And that You did Lord – we give great THANKS!!

Famn se kajou. plis li vye, plis li bon.
Woman is like mahogany, the older the better.
