oh no waves

firm foundation webHow can anyone sleep through a storm?

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” Matthew 8:24-27

How could Jesus sleep?
Why would He say they had “little faith.”
Isn’t He the best place for their request?

I listen to a variety of teachers (diversity in seminary education…yeah!), one said Jesus expected THEM to speak to the waves themselves!

What are your thoughts?
Should we today be able to do that??

  1. Wow. Great question and my answer is, I don’t know. Part of me shies away from that yet I know he told his disciples to do things “in his name”. When I read those verses my first thought was how quickly they were to go to him in their time of need (just like us) but other times doubted his very words (like us). I’ll be interested to see other responses to your question.

  2. Beverly says:

The stone mason John (from the W) spoke to the high winds when camping and the storm died down right away. Many at the W have spoken to the rain that was supposed to be before weddings and toda (hebrew for thank you), no rain! It has become a way of life but yet I sometimes forget what Christ has given me through him! It is good to be reminded and like sheep I need to be reminded time and again:)

    • I have heard many testimonies and pray in faith too. I believe it’s possible but as I was reading I didn’t know if they knew it was possible yet. Thank you for sharing TODA !
