strength of a grasshopper

Wander the ShoreDo you ever feel you’re in the land of the giants? Certain defeat is staring you in the face.

A friend brought up the story of Joshua and Caleb so it’s been in the back of my mind, then it comes up again…
I’m listening Lord!

Then Caleb…said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

But the men…said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are…The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size….We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” Numbers 13:30-33

The Message version of 1 Corinthians 10 (church study) had this gem –
“We don’t reduce Christ to what we are; he raises us to what he is.”

God wants us to see ourselves as HE sees us. Adopted sons and daughters.
He wants us to see our enemies and problems as HE sees them. Already defeated.

From childhood I thought of David Carradine as “grasshopper” and wiki shows this:

Master Po calls his young student “Grasshopper” in reference to a scene in the pilot episode:
Master Po: Close your eyes. What do you hear?
Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds.
Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat?
Caine: No.
Po: Do you hear the grasshopper which is at your feet?
Caine: Old man, how is it that you hear these things?
Po: Young man, how is it that you do not?

God wants you to hear His voice…
to listen…
ask him how He sees you…

    • Yes…He sees and knows our beauty!! I Cor 13:12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. Bless you too Bev

  1. Numbers 13:2 (in Young’s Literal Translation) says: “Send for thee men, and they spy the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel; one man, one man for the tribe of his fathers ye do send, every one a prince among them.” I read that over a year ago, and it has stuck with me…Those men forgot who they were. They were not spies. They were PRINCES going to take their inheritance. In the same way, each of us is a prince or princess, a child of the King of kings. He is sending us forward in victory. Yes, we meet “giants”, but nothing is bigger or stronger than our God! It’s not how big we are but how big God is! And, God loves to use the small, weak and despised things of this world to show His strength, mercy and love. May we move forward in confidence today into our Promised Land. Every place our foot touches will be ours in and through our Lord Jesus Christ!

    Thank you for this, Judi!

Great post, Judi. Love this line, “We don’t reduce Christ to what we are; he raises us to what he is.” The Jews’ reluctance to claim the land God already promised them, reminds me of a lot of us today. We have so many blessings God has already given us, e.g. acceptance, inheritance, grace, peace, and all we have to do is claim it. Great post. Thanks for sharing.
