peace or sword

I’ve said I usually have more questions as I study and here is another area.

Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:34

Jesus talks about turning families against each other…which seems very harsh for a Prince of Peace.

Are these really contradictions?
The Bible seems to have many.

We often focus on easy, encouraging verses instead of questions that require our “Counselor/Holy Spirit” to bring understanding. Sometimes it’s years before we “get it,” but He is patient with us.

Peace is such a personal aspect of our relationship with the Lord. Peace comes from trust, surrender, and a deep abiding in Him and His Word that nothing will come between; not even family.

It’s as if it were a test of where or in whom we find our peace.

  1. This is a challenging scripture at first glance, and yet a reminder that God’s ‘sword’ is His WORD which ‘divides asunder’ and pierces the depths of the human soul. In truth, Jesus reminds us that without His Word which is LIFE…there is no true peace.
