When I started created art after 20 years of not creating, I hoped that “maybe” I might sell a few things. I was very surprised to find many things sold!
And then – a dry season. A time of lacking inspiration, personal crisis, unknown future and more. As a missionary and an artist – it was the perfect time to learn patience and trust in God’s ways and timing. I was at the end of self-sufficiency and learning that real hope isn’t found in what I could do but on the One who created hope for all!
I discovered the gift of holding loosely to things of this world and tightly to those things of God. This world is passing away. It’s not just a climate change issue and it won’t be another flood but God did not create this world to look as it does, or us to be left on the side of the road. He does truly have plans to give us a future and a hope (Jer 29:11) but it does require us to posture ourselves as and where He leads.
1-2 By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us—set us right with him, make us fit for him—we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus. And that’s not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide open spaces of God’s grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.
3-5 There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit! Romans 5:1-5 MSG
Thank you Lord for the hope that you have given us deep in our hearts. Let it be revived and strengthened today as we wait patiently for Your voice to guide us to what is next. We do want to receive all that You graciously long to give us and open our arms, our hearts and our spirits to You!
